Lying in the grass (or whatever on the ground) watching the Stars?
Stars win out every time for me! I love star-gazing. I have tried to learn basic constellations (and there are apps on your Smart-Phone for that as well!) and I watch for Stellar Events as the year starts. There are many many web sites you can visit for listings of these. One of them I use is Space.com - that link is the "must see" events for 2020. The next event is the Perseid meteor shower on August 12. We have already had a couple of goodies in 2020!
Star Gazing is one of the things you cannot do easily in Dallas Texas. The light pollution makes it nearly impossible to see some of the events. You have to get outside of the city to really be able to see anything.
The last few years when my group of friends that I travel with have gone to Maine, you could on any given night see one of more of us lying in the street looking up at the stars. That has been the most amazing place to see the stars. The light pollution is minimal to none, and you feel you are looking into layers of stars. It is simply amazing. This picture on acadiavisitor.com is an excellent representation of what you see on a "normal" night.
For sure this is not what we see when we look up in Dallas!
