Nope, Not Going To Be Cynical

Tonight I took a friend of mine to Fort Worth to pick up a car.  She, in return, treated me to dinner at a new Poke restaurant. While we were eating in this tiny place, a guy up the bar from us was talking with the staff.  We could not help but evesdrop because the place was tiny.

At any rate, what unfolded was that his keys were locked in his car outside... as was his phone.  Lordy if we are not handicapped in today's world without our phones!  He could not do what people normally do in these situations.

As we got up to leave, my friend said to me something to the affect of, you want to help this guy out?  To which I responded, I do.  I asked him to hold on 5 minutes while I dropped her off... then I went back for him.

Turns out... he just moved here a few weeks ago.  We went to his building... and no one showed up to let him in (the staff at the shop had loaned him a phone to call his building)... so we called again.  Turns out without a phone for them to call back to... the call never got placed.  Eventually the maintenance person showed... and then I took him back.

He voiced his surprise that I would help him.  I told him that in the event that I ever needed help, I hope some one would be kind enough to help me too.  Life happens to us. Every day.  And I refuse to become cynical and calloused.  I will continue to believe in the goodness of mankind... and do my part to put my words into action.  It is the little things in life that make changes in our world.
