Week 5 Starts - Day 29: 21st Day of Dallas County Shelter in Place

Yesterday I got my wish - the rain that had been predicted had come during the night - and while the clouds came later in the day, and it looked like it would rain off and on all day - it did not!  When the sun came out in the morning, I geared up and hopped on my bike for a long ride.

For the first three miles I rode on the same trail I have been riding everytime I go out.  It was surprisingly busy though.  So after 3.5 miles, I stopped, took off one of my layers (it was very warm), and headed to the street.

I went down a street called Straight in an attempt to get off of Inwood which was very busy.  It was a beautiful street on the edge of Preston Hollow.  "Old Dallas money" people say.  The homes were huge, and the landscaping was something to behold.  Flowers in full bloom, plants of all types, and lawn art - I really enjoyed riding through all of the beauty there, and just taking it all in.

Eventually I made my way down to a lake on the back side of Southwest Airport's property.  I have walked around that lake many times - it is three miles.  But I have never ridden my bike.  I stayed on the street as long as I could to give walkers room, and then I would hop on the trail.  Once the road paralleled again, I would go back to it.  Spring has definitely sprung.  Wildflowers were blooming everywhere.  Trees were all starting to fill out.

Creatures were all around.  I saw lots of turtles sunning on logs with their babies.  With the way the sun was glimmering on top of the water, I wanted to stop and take some pictures.  I saw water fowl with their babies trailing behind them.  They were swimming in the lake and walking about the trees.  And I saw tons of squirrels.  Then it occured to me, I have never seen a squirrel baby!  When do squirrels have babies and why don't we see momma squirrels with little ones running behind them? It just hit me as I rode that that was weird.

The police were all over the place - they have closed the park and posted it is closed, but they have no gates for a couple of the entrances.  If you were in motion, it was fine.  But a few people threw down a blanket and were quickly escorted back off the property.  If you have no yard where you live, it is hard when the public spaces get shut down as well. I am sure though if they make exceptions, then next thing it is 2 people, then 5 in a group, then three families... and so it is probably easier to prevent gatherings if they just say no to everyone. But that made me kind of sad on such a beautiful day.

All in all, what a beautiful weekend!!  We were able to avoid rain during the hours we were awake - which let us all get some much needed Vitamin D.  Have a great Monday everyone!  I am off and running for what looks like is going to be a busy day.
